First Generation  

1. John Deaver, son of Simon Deaver and Betsy Deaver, was born in 1847 in Richlands, Onslow Co. NC and died poss Bef 1910 at age 63.

General Notes: John Deaver was a Native American with 3 brothers, Elliott Deaver, Simon Deaver and Donald Deaver... They owned land in the Richlands Area of Onslow County, North Carolina... John and his brothers had refused to give up their lands and be driven out like his fellow tribesmen.. They stood their ground and the Settlers were not able to make them give their land up... The Deaver did not have any family so they decided to change their names.. Although John and Simon Deaver did NOT change their names, Elliott Deaver did change his last name to Dove and Donald changed his to Edwards....

John Deaver met Molsey Baysden (A freed slave woman) and they became married by jumping over the broom and moved into John's log Cabin along with her son Jim, her sister Almara and her son Wesley... John Deaver farmed his land, hunted wild animals and game, dipped pine tar from pine trees and sold animal hides for a living... They tended corn, potatoes, peas, collard greens, turnips, peanuts and watermelons.. they also raised hogs and had a horse and goats... John Deaver was also a preacher... When on his Preaching Missions, he carried Horace Williams, the son of Susan Williams with him to help administer his service... He mostly Preached to neighboring families...
